BLOORSTREET MARKET

TORONTO'S NEW FOOD WASTE SOLUTION COMES TO BLOOR STREET

Bloorstreet Market received an OG50 unit in December 2014, and the system was easily integrated into the store’s existing wastewater infrastructure. Training and acceptance of the ORCA system happened right away, with its space and time savings making an immediate impact.

SAVINGS AND BENEFITS

• Annual labor savings = 31 hours
• Food waste diverted to ORCA = 12,000 lbs/month
• Methane generation avoided = 558 m3/month
• Greenhouse gas emissions avoided = 5 tonnes eCO2 /month

Savings add up to the equivalent of planting 13 trees/month or diverting 1,575 meals/month from landfills.

SAVE MONEY. SAVE SPACE. GAIN A FOOD WASTE PARTNERSHIP

What a space saver – once we integrated ORCA into the back of our store, we gained so much extra room in our loading area from fewer waste bins and bags. ORCA has saved our store time, which has helped us reallocate staff priorities towards additional customer service and greater sales. The system has also helped drive down our WSIB costs as a result of fewer accidents related to hauling blue totes around our back room. Thanks to ORCA, there’s less garbage odor, less heavy work and greater employee morale. Now every new Bloorstreet Market employee gets a turn to feed the ORCA as part of their initial job training, it’s that easy to use.
